The Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation has called on the Ministry of Health to improve healthcare services to enhance access and quality for all residents.
Committee Chairman, Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, made the appeal on Wednesday during the ministry’s 2026 budget defense, emphasizing the urgent need for adequate healthcare facilities across the state for both citizens and government workers.
The ministry has been allocated N69.6 billion, representing 14.10 per cent of the state’s N492 billion 2026 budget, reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening health sector infrastructure.
Ogunmolasuyi commended the state health insurance scheme for its prompt response and dedication to residents’ wellbeing, urging all agencies under the ministry to uphold similar standards of efficiency and service delivery.
He also called for better equipment at the House of Assembly Clinic to ensure it can effectively attend to lawmakers and staff with modern facilities and trained personnel.
“Improvements are needed at the Assembly Clinic, including ambulances, drugs, and other medical supplies. Government must intensify its healthcare efforts to ensure the sector effectively serves both residents and staff,” he said.
The committee chairman stressed the importance of acquiring lifesaving medical equipment and urged sustained investment in diagnostic and treatment tools to reduce preventable illnesses and strengthen emergency response capacity.
Responding, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, assured the lawmakers that the Aiyedatiwa administration prioritizes residents’ wellness and remains committed to initiatives that strengthen the health sector and expand access to quality care.
He encouraged residents to enroll in the state health insurance scheme and urged political leaders to promote participation in their constituencies, noting the scheme’s capacity to deliver broader and more efficient healthcare coverage.
“We will focus on equipping the House of Assembly Clinic, and I assure the committee that improvements are underway. Allocating more funds to health will yield tangible benefits for the population,” Ajaka said.
