The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State chapter, has commended Governor Abba Yusuf for renovating more than 200 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and upgrading some PHCs and cottage hospitals to general hospitals.
The NMA Chairman, Dr. AbdulRahman Ali, gave the commendation in a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano as part of activities marking the 2025 Physicians Week.
Ali said the government’s efforts would strengthen the healthcare system and improve the welfare of health workers across the state.
He noted that the initiative would also motivate medical personnel to deliver better services to residents.
The chairman appealed to the state government to ensure a well-motivated and adequately compensated health workforce, while prioritizing continuous training and retraining of medical professionals for enhanced service delivery.
Ali also called on governments at all levels and private health partners to collaborate towards achieving sustainable healthcare goals.
He assured that NMA members would continue to support government policies that promote healthcare development in the state.
The 2025 Physicians Week, themed “Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building Efficiency from Policy to Patient,” emphasizes the need for a coordinated and efficient health system.
Activities lined up for the week include lectures, hospital visits, and free medical outreach programmes.
