The Speaker of Niger state House of Assembly, Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, the Clerk and some members in the state Assembly have tested positive for COVID-19.
This is coming after COVID-19 tests were conducted on the legislators following an incident where two other members tested positive the previous weeks.
ASHENEWS reports that there is currently panic among members and staff of the Assembly over who had contacted the virus as all members and staff were actively in contact with each other this past week, following the budget screening of ministries, departments and agencies.
This development was confirmed by the Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Idris to newsmen in Minna.
The member representing Bida 2, Engineer Haruna Alhaji Baba also confirmed it.
According to him, two weeks ago, the member representing Gurara, Binta Mamman tested positive for the virus, which made the whole legislators and staff of the Assembly undergo test.
“Unfortunately, the results of the speaker and that of the clerk turned out positive”, he stated.
When reached, the Head of Protocol and Information of the Assembly, Alhaji Sabo said that he was not privy to the information.
