ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state government has signed an engagement contract with 60 medical students to engage them in the state’s civil service.
The agreement between the students and the government was reached on Monday at the Legbo Kutigi conference hall in Minna.
Speaking during the event, the Niger state governor, Mohammed Bago said that with the signing of the bond, 60 Indigenous Medical Students of the state would be engaged in the state’s Civil Service on Grade level 10.
Bago, who was represented by the state’s deputy governor, Yakubu Garba said that the initiative is part of the Niger State Government’s effort at supporting their studies and also provide them the opportunity to join the Civil Service before completing their Medical course.
According to him, the Medical students who are in their clinical years have exhibited a plausible willingness to embrace the offer.
He also announced that the Niger state government has made arrangements with Universities in India to train Medical, Engineering and ICT students from the state.
“We have commenced training of Medical students at IBB University Lapai, The conversion of Shiroro Hotel to a Teaching Hospital has reached an advanced stage, this will also provide opportunities for postgraduate training,” the governor said.
On its part, the National Association of Niger State Medical Students commended the state government’s initiative.
“By implementing this salary scale, Niger state government have not only provided much-needed financial support but have also shown a profound commitment to nurturing the next generation of medical practitioners.
“We are confident that this investment will yield substantial benefits for the healthcare system in Niger State. With such support, we are more determined than ever to contribute to the health and well-being of our communities, ensuring better healthcare outcomes for all,” the association said.
