ASHENEWS reports that Dr. Olusegun Alafadeen Adeniyi, Project manager of National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), UDUTH, Sokoto state, appealed that NYSC members who are currently entitled to fees for services under NHIA be considered fixed payment per enrolled corps member.
This appeal emphasizes the agency’s commitment to fostering a more responsive and sustainable healthcare system tailored to the unique needs of corps members across the nation.
While Calling on the NHIA, Dr. Adeniyi expressed the significance of fixed payment per enrolled corps member and how the system can facilitate effective service delivery.

“You know, this payment model incentivizes the healthcare providers to focus on preventive care and efficient management of corps members.
“Most times, when corps members come, we have to start looking for code and all that. But with that capitation, there will be no need for using code that is causing delay.” He added
Acknowledging the role of Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) as intermediaries between NHIA and medical facilities, Dr. Adeniyi commended their efforts. However, he also raised concerns regarding unnecessary visits by corps members for non-urgent medical attention.
However, Dr Adeniyi told ASHENEWS that the “Majority of corp members are not sick, they will just come around and tell us doctor I want to know my health condition or Doctor I want you to do all the tests for me. NHIA has no such provision.”
“They should be aware that it is only When you are sick, that NHIA will render its medical services from investigation to drug dispensation.” He added
He clarified that there are some medical services NHIA doesn’t cover for corps members, but in such cases, they are referred to other facilities where those services are available.
