A non-governmental organization, Brothers Across Nigeria International, Belarus Frigate Chapter, on Saturday reached out to widows and widowers in Obantoko, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The group distributed food items and organised a free medical outreach for more than 250 beneficiaries. Items shared included rice, semovita, spaghetti, noodles, vegetable oil, salt, and sugar.
The outreach also provided medical screening and health education sessions for participants.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Foundation, Comrade Idris Olaegbe, said the effort was part of the organisation’s commitment to reducing hardship among vulnerable people and promoting community welfare.
He explained that the initiative was inspired by the country’s current economic challenges and the need to support people where government assistance may not reach.
Olaegbe added: “We are happy to bring smiles to the faces of these widows and widowers. Our goal is to reach out to vulnerable groups because we believe the government cannot do it all alone. Today, we are giving food items and also offering free medical services so they can check their health status.”
He noted that the exercise was part of the foundation’s mission of “service to humanity” and promised more programmes in the future to support the less privileged.
The medical team, led by Mrs. Adeniran Adeyinka, screened beneficiaries for high blood pressure, diabetes, and other common illnesses.
Adeyinka revealed that more than 200 people were examined, with several found to need urgent medical attention. She raised concern over the high number of undiagnosed health conditions among the elderly.
She explained that the outreach not only gave immediate care but also created awareness about preventive health, lifestyle changes, and the importance of regular medical check-ups.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to journalists expressed deep gratitude. They said the support came at a time when many were struggling to meet basic needs.
They praised the organization for remembering them and prayed for its continued success.
