A 37-year-old man named Ali Mohammed has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He was caught with 8,000 bottles of Asuskura and 48 blocks of cannabis sativa.
The NDLEA’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Sadiq Mohammed Maigatari, announced the arrest on Tuesday.
Although Asuskura is a herbal mixture, it is suspected to contain harmful drugs. The suspect was caught near Gadar Tamburawa on the Zaria–Kano road, when officers stopped a trailer carrying goods from Lagos to Maiduguri.
*Paragraph 4:**The trailer was packed with tricycles (Keke Napep), and the illegal items were hidden between the tricycles and under the trailer. A wooden cover had been built to hide them.
The NDLEA officer said their team found the hidden items because of their careful and dedicated work.
He added that both the suspect and the seized items are now in NDLEA custody. Investigations and lab tests will be done to confirm what the substances are and how big the operation might be.
The NDLEA Commander in Kano State, ACGN AI Ahmad, thanked the NDLEA Chairman, Brg Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), for his support, which helps their teams take strong action.
The NDLEA is asking the public to stay alert and report any suspicious packages or activities to the nearest NDLEA office or other law enforcement agencies.
