The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Kogi State Government, has intercepted a large consignment of illicit drugs allegedly worth millions of naira.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday in Lokoja.
Fanwo said the breakthrough followed a coordinated operation conducted by the state government and the NDLEA based on credible intelligence.
He explained that the illicit drugs, which were neatly concealed in a truck, were being transported through the state to an unknown destination.
According to him, the identity of the drug kingpin and the final destination of the consignment remain undisclosed.
“Investigations are ongoing. We will get to the root of this and ensure that the kingpin and all those involved are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The administration of Gov. Ahmed Ododo will continue to work with the NDLEA to combat all forms of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
“We are monitoring all passenger routes to ensure such dangerous substances do not enter or pass through Kogi,” he said.
Fanwo commended the NDLEA for its sustained efforts in protecting Kogi residents from the dangers associated with illicit drugs.
