The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has destroyed more than 75,000 kilograms of skunk in operations across forests in Edo, Delta, Ondo, and Taraba States.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, announced this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
He explained that on August 20, NDLEA officers cleared 14,233 kilograms of skunk from four farms measuring over 5 hectares in Ebule forest, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The next day, August 21, in Delta State, NDLEA operatives with military support destroyed 25,500 kilograms of skunk found on four farms covering 10.2 hectares in Emu-Obiogu community, Ndokwa West LGA.
In Ondo State, officers also cleared 25,025 kilograms of skunk from three farms measuring 10 hectares at Asolo camp, Uso area.
Similarly, in Taraba State, NDLEA and the Civil Defence Corps destroyed 7,500 kilograms of the drug on three hectares of farmland at Dadin-Kowa village, Bali LGA, on August 20.
Babafemi added that officers also found 901 kilograms of skunk in a warehouse at Uzebba, Owan West LGA, Edo State. A 54-year-old woman was arrested there on August 19 in connection with the drugs.
Meanwhile, in Abuja, NDLEA operatives arrested two dispatch riders on August 21 during a stop-and-search operation in Jabi for distributing drugs in the city.
One of them, a 29-year-old man, was caught with 300 milligrams of pentazocine injection, while the other, a 35-year-old man, was found with 8.64 grams of skunk already packaged for delivery.
