The Acting Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Bauchi State Office, Aliyu Abba Kalli, has raised concern over a disturbing new dimension in human trafficking involving organ harvesting.
Kalli disclosed this during the retirement ceremony of the former State Commander, Mansur Ahmed, organized by the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Bauchi State Chapter, held in Bauchi.
He revealed that traffickers now target young girls not only for prostitution but also for ritual purposes and organ harvesting.
“Trafficking young girls for prostitution abroad is no longer in vogue. These traffickers now use their victims for rituals and to harvest organs such as the pancreas, kidney, and liver,” he said.
According to him, human trafficking has become a global menace, ranking as the third-largest organized crime in the world, with an estimated profit of over $450 billion, as reported by the United Nations in 2024.
Kalli also expressed concern over the rise in online trafficking, forced begging, street hawking, and the exploitation of the Almajiri system, stressing that these crimes are often perpetrated among middle- and lower-income families seeking flamboyant lifestyles.
He urged parents and caregivers to closely monitor their children’s activities to prevent them from falling prey to traffickers.
While commending NACTAL for organizing the event and honoring the outgoing commander, Kalli praised Mansur Ahmed for his leadership and dedication to the fight against human trafficking in Bauchi State.
In her remarks, the Zonal Coordinator of NACTAL, Serah David, described the outgoing commander as a disciplined and dedicated public servant who served humanity with commitment. She advocated the establishment of a State Task Force on Human Trafficking to strengthen coordination, funding, and access to resources.
Also speaking, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NACTAL, Grace Maikudi, highlighted the cordial relationship between NAPTIP and NACTAL in the state and urged the new leadership to sustain the collaboration.
NACTAL is a coalition of civil society organizations working to combat child trafficking, abuse, and labour in Nigeria, and it collaborates closely with NAPTIP.
The group presented an award of recognition to the outgoing commander, Mansur Ahmed, for his service and contributions.
