The Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) branch of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has distributed relief items to 200 patients and honored 21 retired nurses for their years of service.
Mrs. Victoria Samson, Chairperson of NANNM, JUTH branch, said on Thursday in Jos that the initiative marked the 2025 International Nurses Week, themed “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies.”
Samson explained that the outreach aimed to show compassion, boost patients’ morale, and highlight the vital role nurses play in healthcare delivery across communities and the nation.
She noted that the 21 retired members were recognized for their dedication, professionalism, and contributions to patient care at the teaching hospital. Samson also commended JUTH management for its continued support of nurses in the institution.
Earlier, JUTH Chief Medical Director, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, represented by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Njem Josiah, described nurses as central to the healthcare system and said the 2025 theme was timely. He assured the nurses of management’s commitment to providing an enabling work environment to enhance service delivery.
The relief items shared included toiletries, basic supplies, and comfort materials to support patients during their hospital stay, while the retirees received cash gifts and certificates of appreciation.
One patient, Mr. Idris Yusuf, praised the nurses for the thoughtful gesture, describing it as a meaningful way of addressing patient needs. Similarly, retiree Mrs. Rose Christopher thanked the association for recognizing the contributions of those who served diligently.
