The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested a man, Mr. Ikechukwu Elijah, in the Apo-Waru area of Abuja for producing and selling harmful and fake chemicals without a license.
The agency announced his arrest in a statement shared on its official X account on Friday.
NAFDAC explained that Elijah was running an illegal factory inside a residential building. He was caught along with his younger brother after officials discovered fake insecticides, sealing machines, and other equipment in the building.
During the same operation, NAFDAC also shut down MZEE Table Water in the Damangaza area of Abuja. The water factory was said to be operating under dirty conditions with a fake and expired license.
The agency added that the facility did not have important requirements such as a certified borehole and a proper water treatment system.
In another raid, NAFDAC closed a counterfeit rice business at a shopping plaza opposite the World Trade Centre in Abuja. Officials seized re-bagged popular rice brands, packaging materials, and sealing machines worth more than ₦60 million.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the agency is fully committed to making sure Nigerians consume only safe food and medicines.
She advised the public to avoid buying unregulated products and to report suspicious activities. She also assured that all those arrested would be prosecuted.
