The Social Behavioural Change Communications Officer of Marie Stopes International (MSI) Nigeria, Mr. Dan-Baba Muhammad, has urged citizens to embrace reproductive health services to enhance overall health outcomes.
Speaking at a family planning outreach in Ilorin East on Thursday, Muhammad explained that the programme aims to expand knowledge, address misconceptions, and support community members in making healthier reproductive choices.
He said the initiative focuses on empowering families with accurate information, encouraging men to participate actively in reproductive decision-making, and fostering supportive environments that reduce misinformation while promoting positive attitudes toward family planning.
“Eliminating myths surrounding family planning is essential for reducing maternal and infant mortality, improving health outcomes, and strengthening community resilience through informed choices supported by evidence-based guidance,” Muhammad said.
Family Planning Focal Person, Mrs. Jatto Bashirat, said the dialogue complements ongoing efforts under the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative to improve access to reproductive health services. She commended residents for their willingness to learn, noting that understanding family planning empowers individuals to make informed decisions, strengthens families, and contributes to healthier living.
Ilorin East Family Planning Coordinator, Mopelola Balogun, emphasized that family planning requires joint commitment, stressing that shared decision-making between spouses strengthens household stability and improves health outcomes.
Community Chairman, Jimoh Olona, expressed appreciation to the state government and its partners, stating that the sensitization would guide families toward healthier decisions and encouraged residents to embrace the information shared.
