More than 3,000 people in Abia State received free medical care through a health outreach organized by Marketsquare, a retail company. This program is part of their efforts to help local communities stay healthy.
The event took place at General Hospital on Jubilee Road in Aba. People got free check-ups, eye tests, prescriptions, medicines, and other important health services without paying any money.
Those who benefited included elderly people, children, pregnant women, and market traders in the area.
Emmanuel Isangediok, Head of Marketing at Sundry Markets Limited (which owns Marketsquare), said the program, called “Marketsquare Cares,” made a big difference in the lives of thousands in Abia.
He explained that this was the third successful event after similar ones in Rivers and Edo States in 2023 and 2024.
Isangediok said the outreach shows the company’s strong promise to help people in the areas where they operate live healthier lives.“Healthcare is hard to access in many parts of Nigeria. We want to help reduce that problem through this free medical program,” he said.
The outreach was carried out by Marketsquare in partnership with Pro-Health International, a non-profit group, and the Abia State Government.
Isangediok said that over 3,000 people with different health problems were treated during the program.
He also shared that more than 7,000 medical services were provided. These included over 100 general surgeries, 72 eye surgeries, 2,000 lab tests, and more than 2,000 doctor consultations.
He stressed that the goal is to keep improving the health of people in poor or underserved areas wherever Marketsquare operates.
People received many useful services like free doctor visits, surgeries, eye checks, tests for blood sugar and blood pressure, dental checks, lab tests, and health advice.
He added that Marketsquare’s mission is to offer Nigerians a top-quality shopping experience by selling trusted groceries at good prices, while also supporting their everyday needs.
At the event, Abia State’s Health Commissioner, Prof. Enoch Uche, praised Marketsquare for working with the government.
He said, “I thank Marketsquare for supporting this great initiative. I also call on other companies to follow their example and help the community too.”
