Philanthropist Dahiru Mangal has committed more than N87.5 million to sponsor free surgeries for vulnerable patients suffering from hernia and hydrocele across Katsina State.
A member of the Mangal Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Hussaini Kabir, disclosed this on Friday during a screening exercise for patients at the Katsina General Hospital.
Kabir said the intervention is carried out quarterly, noting that hundreds of patients have benefited this year alone.
“In the first quarter, the foundation supported about 400 patients, spending N28 million. In the second quarter, 500 patients received treatment at a cost of N29.5 million. For this last quarter of 2025, about 900 patients have so far registered. We expect more, so we anticipate spending not less than N30 million,” he said.
He noted that the foundation has been providing free surgeries and medical treatment quarterly since its establishment in 2013, extending support not only to residents of Katsina metropolis but also to rural communities and neighboring states.
“Our aim is to ease the financial burden of healthcare for vulnerable individuals who struggle to meet basic needs,” Kabir added.
He appealed to other organizations and philanthropists to support similar humanitarian efforts, stressing the need for collective action to address healthcare challenges in underserved communities.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative and urged government, private organizations and wealthy individuals to emulate such gestures.
One of the beneficiaries, Adamu Abubakar, prayed for the benefactor, saying he had lived with a hernia condition for a long time but could not afford surgery due to economic hardship.
