The Sokoto State Government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of all 244 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state. Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto announced the flag-off ceremony of the 2025 Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign, held in Achida town, Wurno Local Government Area.
He explained that the move is part of his administration’s commitment to bringing healthcare services closer to the people.
Governor Aliyu called on community leaders, stakeholders, and parents to actively support the malaria campaign by mobilising households and ensuring that all eligible children receive the preventive malaria drugs.
As part of efforts to strengthen public health interventions, he disclosed that the state government had provided motorcycles to all Roll Back Malaria officers across the 23 local government areas to enable them to carry out the campaign more efficiently.
He further revealed that the Malaria Elimination Agency’s EQA referral centre would be upgraded to become one of the leading facilities of its kind in Nigeria.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, commended the significant progress recorded in the state’s health sector.
In his remarks, the representative of the Sultan and District Head of Wurno, Alhassan Cigari, described the programme as a major step toward reducing malaria among children. He reaffirmed the commitment of traditional leaders to support all initiatives that promote the health and wellbeing of the people.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, assured that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the success of the campaign.
