The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning (FMBEP), has trained members of the Kaduna State Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN) on the upgraded Performance Management System (PMS).
The two-day training aimed to equip SCFN members with the skills necessary to effectively use the upgraded digital PMS, enhancing their ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate nutrition-related interventions across the state.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to institutionalise a results-driven approach in the implementation of food and nutrition programmes in Kaduna.
At the conclusion of the training on Wednesday in Kaduna, SCFN Chairman Mr. Bashir Muhammad commended the state’s ongoing efforts in addressing malnutrition. Muhammad, who is also the Permanent Secretary of the State Planning and Budget Commission, noted that the committee has made significant strides in initiating targeted programmes to combat malnutrition.
“The committee is working diligently to implement a range of activities aimed at reducing malnutrition,” he said.
He added that the newly upgraded PMS would allow SCFN members to gain deeper insights into completed and ongoing nutrition-related activities. The improved system will also enhance reporting, tracking, and decision-making processes.
Hope Ikani, Programme Officer at CS-SUNN in Abuja, explained that while the PMS has long been in use, it was initially a manual tool before being digitised in 2020. The latest upgrade focuses on improving user-friendliness and functionality.
Ikani said CS-SUNN supported FMBEP in digitising the tool and in organizing the recent training, which covered key features such as logging in, using the dashboard, filling questionnaires, and analyzing data.
“The PMS is an informative tool that supports monitoring, evaluation, advocacy, and targeted interventions,” she said.
Mr. Alaka Oladimeji, Chief IT Officer at FMBEP, said the upgraded system enables states to make data-driven decisions and better track progress in their nutrition programmes.
He reaffirmed FMBEP’s commitment to supporting Kaduna State’s nutrition initiatives.
The SCFN includes representatives from ministries such as Health, Agriculture, and Education, as well as agencies like NAFDAC and media organisations. Development partners including the ANRiN project, CS-SUNN, Muslim World League, Alive & Thrive, and GAIN also contribute to the committee’s efforts.
The PMS is a digital platform designed to improve the effectiveness, accountability, and transparency of government programmes. Its upgraded version features real-time data capture, automated analytics, and improved inter-agency collaboration.
