The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Health Professionals of Nigeria (AHPN), on Tuesday, protested at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, over the non-adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
The unions embarked on the protest following directives from their national bodies.
JOHESU had, on November 15, 2025, embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike over the non-adjustment of CONHESS and other welfare issues.
Speaking during the protest, the state Chairman of JOHESU at FMC Yenagoa, Mr Celestine Onoyima, said an inter-ministerial committee was set up in 2021 to adjust CONHESS, and its report was completed in 2023.
Onoyima also said the Federal Ministry of Health acknowledged the report and wrote to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for implementation.
“However, along the line, the Federal Government stopped the implementation of CONHESS, even though an agreement had already been reached and signed.
“The struggle for the CONHESS adjustment started in 2014, and for more than 10 years now, the government has remained adamant about it.
“We are here with the circular from the Ministry of Health to the Director General of Budget, telling them about CONHESS that had already been approved for implementation,” he said.
Onoyima stated that the strike would continue until their demand for the implementation of CONHESS was met.
“We want to use this opportunity to thank our national body for standing by us and not betraying us,” he said.
