The Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA), has destroyed 5,520 cartons of expired noodles in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the noodles were destroyed through burning in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), in Dutse on Wednesday.
Mr Yusuf Inuwa, the state Cold Chain Officer, told newsmen that the destroyed noodles were earlier provided by WHO to support the National Immunisation Plus Days Campaign on Nov. 26.
He, however, said the campaign was later postponed to Dec. 2.
Inuwa said the noodles were retrieved from the 27 local government areas (LGAs) of the state where they were taken for onward distribution during the immunisation campaign.
“These noodles were provided by WHO to support National Immunisation Plus Days exercise which we planned to conduct on Nov. 26.
“However, based on the directive of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the campaign was postponed, that’s why we retrieved them all from LGAs.
“This is because the noodles’ best before (BB) was on Dec. 2, 2025. So we retrieved all the 5,520 cartons of the noodles and burnt them since they’ve expired,” he said.
NAN reports that the exercise was witnessed by security agencies, including the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, media and representatives of Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA).
