The Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHCDA) has destroyed 5,520 cartons of expired noodles in Dutse.
The noodles were burned in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday.
Mr. Yusuf Inuwa, the state Cold Chain Officer, told newsmen that the noodles were initially provided by WHO to support the National Immunization Plus Days Campaign scheduled for November 26.
He explained that the campaign was later postponed to December 2, prompting the retrieval of the noodles from all 27 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
“These noodles were provided by WHO to support the National Immunization Plus Days exercise, which we planned to conduct on November 26. However, based on the directive of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the campaign was postponed. The noodles’ best-before date was December 2, 2025. Therefore, we retrieved all 5,520 cartons from the LGAs and burnt them since they had expired,” Inuwa said.
The destruction exercise was witnessed by security agencies, including the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, as well as media personnel and representatives of the Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA).
