The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) branch of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) has called off its three-month strike. This decision came after the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stepped in to resolve the situation.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Dr. Okoreaffia Ogbonnaya, the association thanked the minister for his efforts and leadership in addressing the welfare issues that led to the strike.
The doctors, along with other workers under the Area Council Service Commission, had gone on strike three months ago because they were not being paid their salaries and allowances.
“We truly appreciate the minister’s commitment to solving our welfare problems,” the association said. “Some payments have already been made, and his actions have helped restore hope and trust among healthcare workers in the FCT.”
Because of these positive developments, the association has decided to suspend the strike immediately and asked all its members to return to work at once, while talks with the government continue.
The NAGGMDP FCT branch also said it is still committed to working with the FCT Administration and the Area Council Chairmen to make sure all pending payments are made quickly.
“We will keep working with the authorities to ensure our members receive their unpaid salaries and allowances,” the group said.
The association again thanked the FCT Minister for his strong support for healthcare workers and promised to keep working together to build a better, more reliable healthcare system for FCT residents.
