Bill Gates, the global philanthropist and Chair of the Gates Foundation, has praised Gombe State for its outstanding reforms in the health sector. He described the state’s efforts as inspiring and focused on real results.
In a personal letter to the State Government, sent through the Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency and Human Capital Managers Nigeria Limited, Gates expressed appreciation for the state’s leadership and commitment to improving health services for its people.
This was revealed in a press statement signed by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, and made available to journalists on Thursday.
“I was impressed by Gombe’s problem-solving mindset and commitment to achieving results,” Gates wrote after attending a recent high-level meeting in Abuja.
He highlighted the state’s focus on involving stakeholders and its strong governance structure as key to its success.
According to Gates, Gombe’s health sector transformation shows how visionary leadership can create real impact through proper planning and effective execution.
One of the major innovations he praised was the Human Resource for Health biometric attendance platform. This homegrown digital tool helps improve decision-making by tracking staff attendance and guiding better resource allocation.
Gates described the platform as a strong example of how state-led initiatives can use real-time data to optimize resources and deliver results.
He also commended the detailed presentation made by the Gombe team during the meeting and acknowledged the dedication of officials involved.
“Your leadership and innovation are remarkable,” he noted, adding that he would keep a close eye on Gombe’s progress in the health sector.
The statement further explained that the recognition from Bill Gates, one of the world’s leading health advocates, confirms Gombe State’s strong commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage through sustainable systems and innovative solutions.
Misilli said Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has consistently stressed his administration’s determination to improve health outcomes by prioritizing transparency, efficiency, and equal access to quality healthcare.
“Through GoHealth and other relevant agencies, the Gombe State Government remains determined to work with local and international partners to expand and sustain progress in the health sector, while promoting inclusive development,” the statement added.
