The Medical Guild, which represents doctors working under the Lagos State Government, has strongly condemned the recent deductions from their July 2025 salaries, describing the move as clandestine, hostile, and illegal.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Guild’s Secretary, Dr. Adekunle Akinade, members voiced deep displeasure over what they call an unannounced and unjustified salary cut imposed by the state government.
“The Lagos State Medical Guild regrets the deduction from our July pay. This action has undermined the trust that doctors and state authorities have built,” the statement said.
Dr. Akinade warned plainly: “With this unilateral move, the government has crossed a red line.”
He further claimed that the deduction stemmed from a “miscalculation” that the government is retroactively trying to rectify—without any prior communication.
The Guild insists that any financial corrections must be handled through due process and with transparent engagement.
“The officers’ committee had relied on government assurances that a meeting would convene with the governor’s approval on this matter,” Dr. Akinade noted. “This sudden deduction breaches both confidence and protocol.”
In response to the situation, the Guild has convened a Representative Council meeting for Friday to consider the issue and determine appropriate next steps.
The statement urged members to remain calm: “As always, the Guild is devoted to safeguarding your welfare and will pursue every avenue to address this provocation.”
This isn’t the first time the Medical Guild has pushed back against the government—previous disputes have included issues related to hazard allowances, working conditions, and now, the consistency of salaries.
As of now, the Lagos State Government has not officially responded to these allegations.
