The Center for the Advancement and Protection of the Rights of Vulnerable People (CAPRIGHTS-VP) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating exploitative child domestic work in Nigeria.
The centre made the announcement on Thursday in Lagos during the inauguration of its maiden Child Rights Champions’ Forum at Alimosho.
Supported by the Freedom Fund and funded by the United States Department of State, the initiative provides a safe and empowering platform where students are equipped to advocate for children’s rights within their schools and communities.
Following the successful launch at Alimosho Grammar School, the programme was extended to Havanah College in Igando and Millennium School in Egbeda.
CAPRIGHTS-VP explained that the initiative promotes consistent learning, strengthens peer relationships, and enhances the advocacy capacity of students across participating schools.
Each forum session also includes teachers and school counselors, who guide discussions, support participants, and reinforce the shared responsibility of the school community in safeguarding children.
The sessions feature impactful activities, including a drama depicting the realities of exploited child domestic workers, partner-produced skits highlighting real-life experiences, and storytelling sessions led by survivors.
“Through these activities, students deepen their understanding of the inherent dignity and rights of every child, while gaining practical skills to identify unsafe situations, support vulnerable peers, and speak out against abuse and exploitation,” the centre said.
To strengthen child protection reporting, CAPRIGHTS-VP introduced participants to safe and confidential platforms, including a toll-free child protection line – 0800 800 8001 – and the Talkam App, allowing students to report abuse or exploitation without compromising their safety.
The centre affirmed that the Child Rights Champions’ Forum will continue to expand to other schools in Alimosho, building a strong network of empowered young advocates committed to protecting the rights and welfare of all children, especially child domestic workers.
“At CAPRIGHTS-VP, we believe that informed and empowered young people become the strongest voices for lasting social transformation,” the organization said.
