The Borno State Government has described the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA) as a model institution worthy of emulation for its outstanding performance in health financing and service delivery.
Dr. Abba Saleh, Executive Secretary of the Borno Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA), made the commendation in Damaturu on Saturday at the end of a three-day study tour of Yobe’s health financing structures and facilities.
Saleh said the visit was aimed at learning from YSCHMA’s successful strategies as one of the leading health insurance providers in the country.
“We all know that Yobe is at the forefront when it comes to health financing and other components of the health sector,” he said.
He added that the Borno team had gained valuable insights that would help reposition BOSCHMA for improved service delivery.
Saleh also advised other heads of health-related agencies in Borno to understudy their counterparts in Yobe to benefit from their experience and achievements.
He commended the Executive Secretary of YSCHMA, Dr. Babagana Tijjani, and his team for their hospitality and willingness to share knowledge during the study visit.
In his remarks, Tijjani appreciated the Borno delegation for choosing YSCHMA as their study tour destination, describing the visit as an opportunity to strengthen inter-state collaboration and improve the efficiency of contributory health schemes in both states.
During the visit, the BOSCHMA team examined YSCHMA’s operations in enrolment, data collection, and management at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Specialists’ Hospital Damaturu, and Nayinawa Primary Healthcare Centre.
At the YSCHMA headquarters, presentations were made on the agency’s digital portal system, referral process, and claims management by Deputy Director of Standards and Quality Assurance, Mr. Umar Yerima, and Director of Information and Communication Technology, Mr. Saleh Ibrahim.
The visit also featured discussions with officials of YSCHMA’s Finance Department, focusing on accountability, sustainability, and financial management within the state’s health financing system.
