No fewer than 13,117 residents of the Ado State Constituency in Benue State have benefited from a free medical outreach organized by the Deputy Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, Mrs. Lami Ogenyi.
Mr. Agbaji Atsonwu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Makurdi.
Atsonwu said the seven-day comprehensive medical outreach, sponsored by the Lami Health Foundation, provided a wide range of medical and surgical services to beneficiaries.
He listed the ailments treated to include malaria, typhoid, ulcers, high blood pressure, diabetes, cold, and cough, among others.
According to him, beneficiaries also received supplements, vitamins, oral rehydration salts (ORS), and delivery packs during the exercise.
“Surgical procedures carried out included hernia repairs — including complex cases such as umbilical and strangulated inguinal hernias — hydrocelectomies, appendectomies, lipoma excisions, lump removals, abnormal growth removals, and joined finger separations,” he said.
Atsonwu said biostatistics from the outreach showed that a total of 13,117 people received medical attention across various designated centres.
At Ukwonyo-Utonkon, 2,217 general outpatient cases and 2,457 eye cases were recorded, while 35 surgical procedures were successfully performed, bringing the total number of beneficiaries in the centre to 4,709.
At Igumale, physicians attended to 1,919 general cases and 1,968 eye patients, with 58 surgical operations conducted — bringing the total to 3,945 beneficiaries at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Igumale.
At Ijigban, which hosted the Ari outreach, 2,008 general cases and 2,087 eye cases were recorded. Additionally, 19 surgeries were carried out over two days, bringing the total beneficiaries at the centre to 4,114.
He further noted that deferred surgical cases from previous centres were also addressed — with 11 cases from Ukwonyo-Utonkon operated on in Igumale, and 10 from Igumale treated in Ijigban, bringing the total number of deferred surgeries to 29.
Atsonwu added that during the mop-up exercise held at Apa-Agila, a total of 321 people were examined and treated for eye problems.
