The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has inaugurated the Seraphic Psychiatric Hospital and Old People’s Home in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
The 400-bed facility was built by the Seraphic Foundation, the charity arm of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, led by Evangelist Ebuka Obi.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo praised Evangelist Obi for building the hospital, saying the project aligns with his administration’s goals. He noted that while some pastors use ministry to enrich themselves, Obi is using his calling to serve society, which reflects the true meaning of Christianity.
The governor promised to partner with the hospital and provide support. He announced that his government will supply a transformer for electricity and build an access road to the facility. He also pledged monthly assistance to help sustain the project.
Soludo said, “What you have done is a lesson to all Christians: true Christianity is about lifting others. Evangelist Obi has shown that faith must translate into action for the good of society.”
Earlier, Evangelist Obi explained that the event was not political. He said the psychiatric home would begin operations next month, offering free mental healthcare and support for the elderly.
He added that the project was a childhood dream and that similar facilities had been built in other states, with plans for expansion across Nigeria.
Obi explained that the hospital can accommodate about 500 patients at once and assured that mentally unstable people found on the streets will be taken in for treatment. He stressed that the aim is to provide free care for the needy.
He also commended Governor Soludo for hosting him at the government’s “Light House” in Awka, describing the facility as a “mini-city” and a sign of the governor’s vision for the state.
The event was attended by a large crowd of Zion Ministry members and congregants from across Nigeria, who came to witness the unveiling of the hospital and old people’s home.
