The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) has called on Nigerians, especially residents of the Federal Capital Territory, to donate blood to support victims of the explosion that occurred on the Keffi-Kugbo Road, Abuja.
The Director-General of NBSA, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, made the call in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The gas tanker explosion occurred on Wednesday and left many casualties, some of whom are in urgent need of blood transfusion.
“We are urgently calling on Nigerians, particularly residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to donate blood to support victims of the tragic vehicle explosion that occurred yesterday on the Keffi-Kugbo Road in Abuja.
“Hospitals and emergency response teams are working tirelessly to save lives, but adequate blood supply is crucial to their efforts.
“We urge all eligible donors to visit designated blood donation centres and hospitals across the FCT to make voluntary blood donations.
“Your generosity can make the difference between life and death for those in critical condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps, has confirmed that six persons died and 25 others were injured from the accident.
Ogungbemide attributed the accident to brake failure which led to vehicle collisions and the explosion.
