Adamawa Government has reaffirmed commitment to supporting national health sector reforms toward providing an enabling environment for young professionals to contribute meaningfully to evidence-based decision-making and sustainable health outcomes.
Zirra Bubanani, Permanent Secretary, Adamawa Ministry of Health and Human Services, stated this at the three-day Physical Interview for National Health Fellowship Program Cohort 2.0 in Yola on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme is in collaboration with the National SWAp Coordination Office, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMoHSW), and development partners.
Bubanani said that the National Health Fellowship Programme aligned with the state’s vision of strengthening human resource capacity for improved health service delivery.
He noted that the programme would help bridge critical gaps in health planning, coordination, and programme implementation, particularly at the sub-national level.
In his remarks, the SWAp Coordinator, Mr Bitrus Midala, explained that the programme remained a critical component of the health sector renewal agenda.
“The fellowship is designed to strengthen coordination, accountability, and performance across the health systems”, he said.
He encouraged candidates to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a deep understanding of health system challenges.
Dr Yusuf Abubakar of the World Health Organisation (WHO), described the National Health Fellowship Programme as a strategic platform for developing a pool of competent professionals capable of supporting health sector reforms at both national and sub-national levels.
Abubakar ,who is also the Chairman, Interview Committee, emphasised that WHO’s technical oversight was aimed at ensuring a credible and merit-based selection process.
