The All progressive Congress, APC, Zamfara state chapter, says it will sue the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over Bakura constituency supplementary election.
The chairman of the party’s publicity committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Birnin Magaji at a press conference alleged that INEC did not recognize his party as major stakeholder in Bakura constituency by-election, adding that there was insecurity during the poll.
“INEC didn’t take into cognizance of the APC as major stakeholder in the exercise and therefore went so low to finish the dirty job it started and that is what informed our decision not to participate in the supplementary election.”
Birnin Magaji revealed that during the by-election held on 5th of December, votes of some wards were cancelled during the collation exercise by INEC.
According to him, the results of over 30 polling units and voting points in Rini, Birnin Tudu, Bakura and Yargeda wards were cancelled.
“However, INEC unilaterally and single-handedly upturned it earlier verdict and came out with what could be best described as random selection of 14 poling units where it conducted the said supplementary election that produced the PDP candidate as ultimate winner of the exercise”.
He explained that APC decided to pull out of the supplementary election for the safety of lives and property of all the citizens.
“It is pertinent to know that APC and INEC will meet in a court of law to sort out things over the Bakura state Assembly election and supplementary election of 5th and 9th December 2020, respectively”.
