The Red Cross Society in Enugu, says it is monitoring violence in the South East region of the country, saying this is its top priority.
Mr. Tony Udegbu, the state secretary of the society, stated this while speaking in an interview on Friday in Enugu.
Udegbu said monitoring the situation was to know when to extend humanitarian services to people affected by the violent crisis currently rocking the region.
He, however, noted that Red Cross could not predict when such humanitarian interventions would come.
He disclosed that the society had assisted thousands of persons whom they discovered were in dire need in the state.
According to him, the organization has done a lot towards ensuring that those affected by the various outbreak of diseases were provided with medical assistance as well as made them stand on their feet.
On the Red Cross emblem, Udegbu urged the public to respect the emblem, especially during conflict situations, warning that attacking society workers would negatively impact its humanitarian services to those who needed it.
He added that the society was collaborating with media practitioners, whom he described as critical partners in its humanitarian activities.
