Two years after he tried to flee to Germany, the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been released by the Benin Republic government, and arrived in the European country.
Sunday Igboho arrived Germany on Monday, sharing a TikTok video of himself and a woman believed to be his wife on Instagram.
“Outside living! May the grace of God never depart from my life,” he captioned the video.
Media mogul Dele Momodu also confirmed the Yoruba Nation agitator had arrived in Germany in “very good spirits”.
Mr Momodu wrote on Instagram, “I just did a video call with Chief Sunday Igboho Adeyemo and can confirm that he has landed in Germany and in very good spirits.”
This comes hours after Sunday Igboho announced he was now free to leave Cotonou, Benin Republic.
The activist was taken into custody on July 20, 2021, while trying to flee to Germany at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, Benin Republic, three weeks after he was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria for allegedly stockpiling arms.
He was later granted bail and directed to remain in Cotonou.
His clash with the Nigerian government began after he declared Yoruba Nation sovereignty over alleged attacks on the Yoruba by Fulani herdsmen.
In a statement titled “My Release in Benin Republic,” Sunday Igboho commended some prominent Yoruba indigenes, politicians, media, academia and Yoruba monarchs for what he called the critical support and solidarity he enjoyed from them while his sojourn in Cotonou lasted.
Among those he mentioned were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nobel laureate Prof Wole Soyinka, and Momodu.
