The Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Sokoto, Prof. Bashir Garba has pledged to boost the welfare of staff and students.
He made the pledge when he received officials of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), who paid him visit on Wednesday.
Professor Garba urged the union members to always employ dialogue as a means of resolving issues, rather than confrontation.
“The main thrust of unionism is understanding not disruption. Therefore, I’m enjoying you to always resolve issues amicably by engaging in dialogue rather than confrontation.
“You should consider your employer as a partner in progress instead of a foe. This will allow you to work towards the realization of the objectives of the University,” the Vice-Chancellor advised.
He applauded the sense of patriotism displayed by members of the Union whenever they are pursuing their entitlements.
Prof. Garba expressed his readiness to take the University to a greater height and urged the entire staff of the institution to remain committed to discharging their duties, in order to complement the efforts of the management in executing programs that are geared towards academic excellence and community service.
Earlier, the SSANU Chairman, Abdullahi Maigandi assured the management of the unions support and cooperation to make the University an enviable institution.
He commended governor Tambuwal for appointing Prof. Garba as the Vice-Chancellor of the University, giving the appointee’s leadership qualities.
