Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has signed the 2026 Sokoto State Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of ₦758,700,527,537.
Speaking shortly after assenting to the bill, Governor Aliyu described the 2026 budget as a “People’s Budget,” noting that it incorporates inputs from town hall meetings across the state, where citizens shared their views and priorities ahead of the budget presentation.
The Governor highlighted that the 2026 budget places less emphasis on recurrent expenditure, which accounts for only 19 percent of the total allocation.
“This aligns with the policy introduced by our leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, during his tenure as Governor, which stipulates that recurrent expenditure should not exceed 30 percent of the total budget,” he said.
Governor Aliyu commended the Sokoto State House of Assembly for its thorough scrutiny and prompt passage of the bill, while urging commissioners to strictly adhere to the funds appropriated to their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
He also praised the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative branches, calling for its continued sustenance. The Governor reassured the people of Sokoto State of his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and driving the overall development of the state.
Governor Aliyu further thanked citizens for their continued support and prayers, urging them to maintain the momentum for progress.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, lauded Governor Aliyu for prioritizing key sectors such as security, agriculture, healthcare, water supply, education, and human capital development.
“The 2026 Appropriation Bill was thoroughly scrutinized by the House to ensure it reflects the needs and aspirations of the electorate,” the Speaker said. He added that the legislature would continue performing its oversight functions to ensure citizens benefit from services approved by the executive.
“The House also commends you for your commitment in the fight against banditry since assuming office,” the Speaker stated before presenting a commendation award to Governor Aliyu on behalf of the Assembly.
