Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has told security agencies to treat anyone helping bandits with information the same way they treat the bandits themselves.
He gave this order while visiting Wurno and Rabah Local Government Areas, where bandits had recently attacked and harmed communities.
The governor said he was saddened by the killings and damage caused by the attacks. He strongly criticized the informants, calling them unpatriotic people who betray their communities for small rewards.
Aliyu said his government has created new plans to fight banditry and will no longer tolerate those who help criminals.
He promised to find and punish all informants and their partners, saying none of them would be spared under the new policy.
He also called on responsible citizens to continue supporting efforts to bring lasting peace to the state.
The governor encouraged people in rural areas to report anyone living suspiciously well, so the authorities can investigate. He also asked Islamic clerics to talk about the dangers of banditry and helping criminals during sermons and prayers.
To show what his government is doing about security, Aliyu said they had given over 170 patrol vehicles and motorcycles to support security forces.
He also said that allowances for security workers in high-risk areas have been increased, and a new State Community Guard Corps has been created.
Finally, he promised to keep supporting security agencies, thanked the people of Sokoto for their prayers and support, and urged them to stay alert and work together.
