Sokoto state government has handed stern warning against education secretaries found to be wanting in the discharge of their duties.
The Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Alhaji Shuaibu Gwanda Gobir said this at the inauguration of State and Local Government BESDA Monitoring Teams, held in the auditorium of Sultan Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies.
In a statement by spokesperson of the Board, Abbas Tukur Sanyinna made available to Ashenewsonline on Thursday, Gobir said the warning became necessary because some education secretaries were sabotaging the efforts of government in improving basin education in the state.
He expressed concern that some education secretaries illegally collect money before distributing BESDA materials to Non Formal Learning schools across the state.
Gobir therefore warned that any education manager under the board that is found collecting money illegally in the name of exercising his duty, will be punished according to the gravity of his offense.
He wondered how education could be achieved with corrupt officials who are the number one education stakeholders at basic level.
