ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Government has pledged to compensate some herdsmen who lost their cattle in the state as a result of banditry.
This intervention, the Government said is aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence among the diverse group of people in the state.
Governor of the state, Abubakar Sani Bello who made this known during a cultural festival organized by the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-Cultural Association of Nigeria said that six pastoralists, two from each of the three geopolitical zones in the state would receive 10 cattle each from the state government.
Bello, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the state government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane stressed that the intervention intends to address clashes between farmers and herders in the state.
This is in addition to supporting the victims of banditry to start over with the Government’s support.
He added that the state government has been working on developing the Bobi grazing reserve in the state as part of efforts to support pastoralism.
“The reserve, apart from being a pragmatic and sustainable solution to Farmers-Herders clashes, will also generate employment opportunities,” he said.
