ASHENEWS reports that a gang of six men allegedly raped a female television presenter with a private media outlet in Lapai, headquarters of Lapai local government area of Niger state.
This online platform further gathered that the 18-year-old victim was raped on Saturday at the Kobo Primary School in Lapai while returning from a Quran memorization class.
Confirming the incident, the founder of the TV station, Aliyu Kure said that the victim was a mentee at the TV station.
Kure, who took to his Facebook page to condemn the incident, urged the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served.
“I strongly condemn the rape of Lapai TV’s Mentee and presenter by six unidentified individuals. I call upon the Niger state, and Lapai local government council, security agencies, and the Lapai Emirate Council, individuals, and all other relevant bodies, to urgently intervene and assist us in this matter.
“The incidence of crime, including vandalism, sexual harassment, drug peddling, and other offenses, has reached alarming levels in Lapai. The community is experiencing a significant rise in lawlessness, which is deeply concerning,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Niger State Police command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection to the incident.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun while confirming the incident on Monday, said that the case was reported to the Lapai divisional police department on Sunday.
“On 16/07/2023 at about 1000hrs, it was reported at Lapai Div that on 15/07/2023 at about 2015hrs, a lady of about 18yrs was allegedly raped at Kobo primary school lapai by some unidentified persons.
“However, two persons have been arrested as investigation is ongoing,” Abiodun said via his Twitter handle @AbeyWas.
