The Lagos State Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has awarded cash prizes to students of Arabic and Islamic studies for their outstanding performance in a Qur’anic competition. The students, drawn from mosques across Lagos Island, showcased remarkable knowledge of the Qur’an at the event.
Rhodes-Vivour attended the Islamic gathering as a special guest at the Jama-a-tul Islamiyyah Central Mosque, Lagos Island, on Thursday, March 27, 2025 (equivalent to Ramadan 27, 1446 AH).
Commending the participants, he praised their dedication to Islamic scholarship and emphasized that their intellectual capacity far outweighed any material reward. He noted that their mastery of Qur’anic linguistics, recitation, and religious teachings was invaluable.
Expressing his admiration, Rhodes-Vivour reiterated his unwavering commitment to the people of Lagos, despite the outcome of the last gubernatorial election.
In a statement on his verified Facebook page on Friday, he wrote:
“I was greatly impressed and blessed by the brilliant display of knowledge by these young minds at the JAMA-AT-UL ISLAMIYYA of Nigeria Central Mosque, Lagos Island.
The gifts I awarded the winners for their impeccable grasp of Islamic teachings were nothing compared to the warmth, love, and heartfelt prayers I received from this wonderful community.
May the Almighty reward their dedication and steadfastness, and may the prayers offered during this Holy Ramadan period bring relief, succor, and happiness to our people.”
Rhodes-Vivour’s participation in the event and his support for Islamic education further underscored his engagement with grassroots communities in Lagos State.
