As Nigerian Muslims commenced this year’s Ramadan fast on Saturday, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko has called on wealthy faithful to support the needy.
In a felicitation message he sent on the commencement of the fast, Wamakko appealed to privileged Muslims to feed the poor amongst them.
The message was issued by his media aide, Hassan Sanyinnawal in Abuja on Saturday.
“Wamakko joined the world leaders in welcoming the month of Ramadan, the month of fasting and intense devotion for Muslims.
“Wamakko also said that the period offers a unique opportunity to feel the hunger experienced by the poor, so as to feel what it is like.
“Wamakko advised the Muslim elite against food waste and extravagant spending while others face hunger and destitution.
“He urged that they should care for their neighbours and the needy ones.”
Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North) also called for prayers, saying, “they will pave ways for a peaceful co-existence in the country and beyond”.
Besides, the lawmaker and former governor of the state called for harmony among the states of the federation to boost security.
