ASHENEWS reports that the Managing Director of the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority, Aliyu Tajudeen has said that a total of N9 billion has been earmarked for Niger State under the Authority’s 2025 fiscal budget.
Tajudeen started this when he, alongside other management team members paid a courtesy visit to the Niger state governor, Umaru Bago at the Government House on Tuesday.
According to him, the funds earmarked are to support various agricultural and water infrastructure projects in the state.
Tajudeen who listed some of the Authority’s key interventions in the state, to include dam construction and rehabilitation also identified irrigation schemes, access roads, and the provision of farm machinery as part of the project to be implemented.
On his part, the Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, expressed the state’s readiness to collaborate with the UNRBDA to enhance water and agricultural infrastructure across the state.
The governor who said said that the planned synergy is in line with the state’s commitment to key into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agricultural revolution, adding that Niger State is fully prepared to serve as a pilot for agricultural transformation in the country.
He also assured the management that efforts are already underway to secure increased funding for the Authority in collaboration with federal and state legislators.
“As part of our support, we will work with lawmakers to ensure more resources are allocated to the River Basin Authority so that it can achieve its mandate and deliver lasting impact,” Bago said.
This online platform reports that the visit was to brief the Governor on ongoing and planned projects in Niger State and to align with the Governor’s developmental agenda.
