ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state government has collaborated with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to deliver increased electricity supply to residents.
Speaking when he received a delegation from the AEDC at the Government House, in Minna, the state governor, Mohammed Bago said that the collaboration was vital given the state’s contributions to electricity generation and supply in Nigeria.
He described the electricity supply as vital, given the state government’s plan to turn the state into an industrialization and processing zone.
The initiative, tagged “Light Up Niger 2024” would also address issues around metering in the state.
Bago added that the Niger state government has domesticated the Electricity Act in the State and has also created the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
He further stated that the necessary paperwork for the Regulatory Commission will soon be completed so that the State can start generating and distributing its power.
On his part, the Chief Operating Officer of AEDC, Eng. Chijioke Okwuokenye said that the project will improve and sustain the electricity supply to the state.
He further assured that the firm is willing to partner with the state government for the desired result.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) is one of the 11 power distribution companies that was successfully privatized and handed over to new investors on 1 November 2013.
AEDC has a franchise for the distribution and sale of electricity across an area of 133,000 km2 in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger State, Kogi State, and Nassarawa State.
The company is organized into 9 Regions and 39 Area Offices across the aforementioned 4 states. The Company has maintained Customer Service Standards of Performance, in line with Internationally accepted standards (IEC 60050: Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electricity). It is for this reason that the Company continues to prioritise to the improvement of power supply and technical efficiency through investment in the network to improve service delivery.
