ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has redeemed his pledge to donate N250 million to Newgate University as an endowment fund.
The governor equally handed over cheques to students of the Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna (AKU) and the university’s management on Monday during a brief ceremony at the Governnment House in Minna.
Recall that the governor during the inaugural matriculation ceremony for the 86 newly admitted students for the 2023/2024 academic session of AKU announced that the state has secured N15 billion for the construction of hostels and a Senate building at the university, alongside N500 million to support the launch of six new faculties.
The governor also announced a scholarship of N1 million for each of the 86 pioneer students of AKU.
The governor equally announced plans to establish Nigeria’s first sub-national Research Institute at the university in Minna.
The institute according to the governor will focus on agriculture, science, and innovation, positioning the university as a hub for cutting-edge research and development.
The governor, while handing over the cheques to the beneficiaries assured them of the state governments commitment to strengthening the education sector in the state.
