ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has decried a lack of synergy with the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (NHYPPADEC).
Bago stated this when he received the management of the commission in his office on Tuesday.
He noted that the state government has observed duplication of projects carried out by the Commission in some areas where the government has already provided such.
“I have observed with dismay the lack of synchronization of your policies and programs with that of the state as such, we have created a Ministry for Power and Renewable Energy with terms of reference so that they can interface with the commission.
“You should streamline your programs with that of the state because it is going to be absurd to find out that you build schools where we are also building schools just because there is no communication, or you provide life jackets or support programs where we have just done that or food intervention and other interventions.
“Once we synchronize our programs, we work in tandem with each other and bring out the desired goals that we are looking for,” he said.
He urged the Commission to step up interventions in communities in the state, being dominated by four hydroelectric dams in the country.
According to him, “with 32 percent revenue accrue to it, the people of the state are not adequately compensated,”
On his part, the Managing Director of the commission Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa assured that it would improve its relationship with the Niger State government.
He stressed that the commission has been working keenly in supporting communities in the state with basic amenities and would continue to build on this mandate.
