Former lawmaker, Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo, who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 9th and early 10th Senate, has denied reports linking him to the rape of a 13-year-old girl, describing the allegation as “baseless, malicious, and politically engineered.”
Abbo, previously caught in a 2019 scandal after a viral video showed him assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja, dismissed the latest claim as the handiwork of political enemies bent on destroying his reputation.
In a telephone chat with journalists in Abuja, he refuted reports that he was arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), insisting he spent Thursday at his Katampe Extension residence. “The said report is the handiwork of my political detractors. It is an orchestrated smear campaign to disturb my peace,” he said.
Some blogs had reported that Abbo was in custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at his Abuja home on June 29, 2025, and that the victim’s family accused him of attempting to buy their silence. He denied the claims, explaining that the reports were a twist of an earlier encounter with a woman he described as a “money monger,” who allegedly tried to extort ₦5 million from him. According to him, he reported the matter to the police, and both parties were invited for questioning.
The reports also claimed that Senator Aishatu “Binani” Dahiru Ahmed visited the victim’s family to dissuade them from pressing charges. Neither the police nor Senator Binani has confirmed or denied the allegation as of press time.
Abbo said the allegations were part of a smear campaign linked to political rivalries in Adamawa State. He remains a controversial figure, having faced multiple scandals and political clashes with key figures, including Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
As of Friday afternoon, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement on whether Abbo was invited, detained, or under investigation.
“This is yet another smear campaign. I am at home, I am free, and I will defend my name again,” the senator said.
