Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has approved a six-month maternity leave for female civil servants in the state in a move to promote maternal and child health.
The governor gave the approval during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Minna.
He explained that the policy is designed to give nursing mothers adequate time to recover and care for their newborns, which will, in turn, enhance their wellbeing and productivity upon resumption of duty.
The Governor directed the Head of Service, Abubakar Idris, to develop modalities for the effective implementation of the policy across all relevant ministries and agencies.
According to him, the initiative aligns with international best practices and reflects his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the health of mothers and children in Niger State.
