Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Wednesday presented a N517.5 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly for approval.

Presenting the Appropriation Bill tagged “Budget of Strategic Consolidation” in Lafia, the governor commended the legislature for its consistent support in passing previous budgets.

Sule said the theme of the 2026 budget aligns with his administration’s development agenda to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects, strengthen connectivity, and enhance the state’s economic competitiveness.

He said N212.79 billion, representing 41.12 per cent of the budget, is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N304.75 billion—58.88 per cent—goes to capital expenditure. The ratio, he noted, reflects the administration’s continued prioritisation of capital investment.

The governor also provided a sectoral breakdown of the budget as follows:

  • Administrative Sector: N108.70 billion
  • Economic Sector: N221.84 billion
  • Law and Justice Sector: N16.09 billion
  • Social Sector: N170.92 billion

Sub-sector allocations include:

  • Infrastructure: N157.80 billion (30.5%)
  • Education: N92.91 billion (17.95%)
  • Science, Technology & Digital Economy: N4.92 billion (0.95%)
  • Governance, Security & General Administration: N142.96 billion (27.62%)
  • Finance, Investment & Trade: N39.19 billion (7.57%)
  • Health: N37.19 billion (7.19%)
  • Agriculture & Water Resources: N31.85 billion (6.15%)
  • Environment & Community Development: N28.32 billion (5.42%)
  • Information & Tourism: N18.65 billion (3.60%)
  • Legislation: N16.59 billion (3.21%)
  • Law & Justice: N16.09 billion (3.11%)
  • Youth & Sports Development: N10.01 billion (1.93%)
  • Humanitarian & Women Empowerment: N2.50 billion (0.48%)

Sule reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening government capacity and improving service delivery across the state.

Receiving the budget, Speaker of the Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, assured the governor of effective collaboration and speedy passage of the proposal.

He pledged that the 7th Assembly would continue to uphold the highest standards of legislative excellence, while ensuring that government policies and programmes are implemented efficiently.

Jatau urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies to comply strictly with budgetary provisions and called on residents of the state to continue promoting peace, unity and mutual respect, regardless of political, ethnic or religious differences.

The state’s 2025 budget was N476.5 billion.
