The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Lawal Nasiru of Unguwar Jarmai in Darazo Local Government Area, for allegedly assaulting and cruelly confining an 11-year-old Almajiri pupil.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspect tied the victim, Sani Abdullahi of Nahuta, Katsina State, with a heavy rope and flogged him with a stick and thick cable, inflicting serious injuries on his hands and legs.
The incident was reported on September 22, 2025, by Idris Mohammed, a social welfare officer in Darazo, who brought the injured child to the police station. The boy was later taken to the General Hospital, Darazo, for medical treatment.

During interrogation, Nasiru confessed to tying the boy, claiming it was to prevent him from running away from the Tsangaya school. However, the victim told investigators that he was mercilessly confined for a long period.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, after which the suspect will be charged to court.
