The Maikoli Farms, a subsidiary of Maikoli Foundation has donated 2,000 Morninga seedlings to Sokoto State Zakat & Waqf (Endowment) Commission.
Presenting the seedlings on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Foundation, Altine Kajiji said the donation is to complement the Commission’s efforts in the promotion of tree waqf initiative in the north and beyond.
The gesture, he added, was deliberately timed to coincide with the annual World Humanitarian Day.
Kajiji particularly expressed deep appreciation to the chairman of the commission, Lawal Maidoki who he said was inspirational and instrumental to the establishment of the farm.
According to him, the economic potential of Tree Waqf if properly harnessed, would no doubt lift many communities out of poverty line.
Earlier in a vote of thanks, Maidoki commended the foresight of Shehu Maikoli Foundation for the donation, adding that it was the first Foundation in the state to have complemented his commission is this regard.
He therefore assured of tyhe commission’s readiness to welcome any organization seeking similar collaboration in boosting the culture of tree waqf in the state.
Maidoki assured that the Morninga seedlings would be planted in some districts across the state as waqf gesture.
