The Supreme Court has rejected the motion by the People’s Democratic Party and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar asking the court to accept fresh evidence to prove President Bola Tinubu’s alleged submission of a fake certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The chairman of the 7-member panel resolving the appeal, Justice John Okoro, said that the appellants failed to meet the 180-day timeframe provided by the constitution for the amendment of electoral applications.
Justice Okoro also ruled that the appellants were tardy and did not do due diligence in obtaining the new evidence on time.
